Lonesome Whippoorwills Return To Eastgate Cafe

This past Saturday night, Lonesome Whippoorwills came back to Eastgate Cafe in Oak Park to play three sets of music. We had a great time playing for a very energetic and supportive audience. We started the night off playing a few holiday songs, which seemed to to go over pretty well. After all, who doesn't like holiday music? The LWs then went into their first set of songs, accompanied by drummer Mike Levin. Thanks Mike for keeping a steady beat! We were fortunate enough to have Mike play with us through the first two sets of music. During the third set, we got back to our acoustic/waltz roots and were honored to be joined by special friends Richard and Michelle on mandolin and bass (respectively).

The greatest part of the night was playing for such a wonderful, supportive audience. I know I'm missing some names here, but I'd like to say thanks to a couple of individuals who came out to support our group. Special thanks to Mitch, Kristie, Tom, and Susie.

Also, a special thanks goes out to Olya at Eastgate Cafe for giving us this wonderful opportunity. We absolutely love playing at Eastgate Cafe and can't wait to come back and play again on February 16th!

Thanks again for everyone's support. We look forward to seeing you out again in 2013. Have a great holiday season!

Lonesome Whippoorwills play with Charles Torpe and Friends at Eastgate Cafe

This past weekend, Lonesome Whippoorwills were the opening act at Eastgate Cafe on a bill of music featuring the music of Lonesome Whipp friend and honorary member, Charles Torpe. Charles, thanks so much for allowing us to be part of this fun evening as brought to us by New Kaleidoscope Productions. Eastgate Cafe, nestled in the Oak Park arts district, turned out to be a delightful place to play. We hope to play there again soon. Also, special thanks to the the staff at Eastgate Cafe for allowing us this opportunity and for the delicious sandwiches and drinks! After our hour long opening set, we were treated to the music of Thelonious MacGillycuddy (world fusion and original music from Charles Torpe) http://www.myspace.com/ctorpe followed by Scattin' In Tongues (classic rock, blues, and soul) with members from Ring Shout.

On Sunday, LW played a set of music at Mather Pavilion in Evanston. We always love coming to Mather every month to see the wonderful people (residents, volunteers, and staff). Even with a missing guitar strap, we were able to make it all work. Thanks again Carrie for all you do at Mather!

On 10/20/12, Lonesome Whippoorwills played a gig for Mankind Project Chicago. We were truly honored to play for such a great cause. Special thanks to Charles Torpe, who not only put this wonderful event together, but also played some blistering electric guitar with the Whipps during our set. Wow, that was a nice sound to our group! Dinner afterwards was tasty. We were then all treated to hear Charles' band tear it up as the evening's main event. Thanks again, Charles for everything!

To help celebrate the Ten year anniversary of the Edgewater Historical Society, Lonesome Whippoorwills played an hour long set this past Saturday. The original plan was to play outside in the garden. However, cold chilly conditions and grey skies brought us inside to play in the museum at pleasant room temperature! Our lineup featured the addition of two wonderful musicians: Charles Torpe on bass and Paul Boisvert on fiddle. Thanks Charles and Paul for playing with us. We hope you had fun and look forward to playing with you both again! As always, we greatly appreciate the kind staff at Edgewater and those in the community who came to the Historical Society and listened to us play.

Lonesome Whippoorwills Perform at Edgewater

Lonesome Whippoorwills had a wonderful time playing for the staff and visitors of Edgewater Historical Society this past Thursday. While skies were a bit grey at the beginning of the performance, rain held off and the Whipps were able to play their scheduled two set performance. Special thanks to Dorothy Nygren at Edgewater Historical Society for giving our group this great opportunity to play. I speak for the group when I say we very much enjoyed this experience. From the pictures below, you can see that the garden setting was lovely. Also, thanks to those in the audience who listened to us play.    We hope to play again one day at the Edgewater Historical Society Garden.

This Friday

Hey guys,
Greetings from Minneapolis. I get back in town tomorrow. Looking forward to practice on Friday at 5:00 at OTS of Folk on Armitage followed by Jim's 6 String Social at 6:00. During our practice, I was thinking we could run through some of the "newer" songs we practiced last Sunday: If I Fell, I'll Follow The Sun, Evangeline, Little John of God, Sail Away. Also, we should try some of the other songs we've been discussing this week through email. Lastly, just wanted to once again offer up the option of getting dinner after Jim's program concludes somewhere nearby.

Please be sure to give your feedback to the blog in terms of design, colors, pictures, etc. I like the picture of the 2 guitars and accordion so I actually put it at the top of the blog near the title.

See you on Friday!

First Post!

Dear Whipps,
Check out our blog. Right now, as you can see, it's very basic and simple at this point. I'm hoping that some of you guys might be able to add some things to it. I think when we practice next weekend at Mike's house, we should take some pictures of the group, so we can put those on the blog. Blogging is something I have some pretty limited experience with, so hopefully others in the group can build from this set up.

See you guys soon.

Thanks,
Adam
